Adoption Information

Adoption Process

  1. Browse Available Animals: Visit our Rescue Animals page to see animals looking for homes.
  2. Contact Us: Reach out via email or phone, or submit an adoption interest form to express your interest in a specific animal.
  3. Meet & Greet: We'll schedule a time for you to meet the animal and ensure it's a good match for both you and the animal.
  4. Home Check: For some animals, we may conduct a home visit to ensure a safe and suitable environment.
  5. Adoption: Once approved, you'll complete the adoption paperwork and bring your new companion home!

Adoption Requirements

  • Stable living situation with appropriate space for the animal
  • Ability to provide proper care, including veterinary attention
  • Commitment to the animal's lifelong wellbeing
  • All household members must be in agreement about the adoption
  • For renters: landlord approval may be required

Adoption FAQ

What's included in the adoption?

All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. We provide medical records and any known history about the animal.

How long does the process take?

The adoption process typically takes 1-2 weeks, depending on the animal and your situation. We work to ensure the best match for everyone involved.

Can I return an animal if it doesn't work out?

Yes, we understand that sometimes adoptions don't work out as expected. We always welcome animals back and will work with you to find the best solution.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers are the heart of our organization. Whether you have experience with animals or are just starting out, there's a place for you at Acre Animal Rescue.

Volunteer Roles

  • Animal Care: Help with feeding, grooming, exercise, and basic care of our rescue animals.
  • Socialization: Spend time with animals to help them become more comfortable around people and prepare them for adoption.
  • Event Support: Help organize and run adoption events, fundraisers, and community outreach activities.
  • Administrative: Assist with paperwork, data entry, phone calls, and other office tasks.
  • Transportation: Help transport animals to veterinary appointments, adoption events, or foster homes.
  • Photography & Social Media: Take photos of our animals and help manage our online presence.

Fostering is one of the most impactful ways to help our rescue animals. By opening your home temporarily, you provide a safe, loving environment that helps animals prepare for their forever homes.

What to Expect

  • We Provide Everything: All food, supplies, and veterinary care are covered by Acre Animal Rescue.
  • Support & Guidance: Our team is always available to answer questions and provide support throughout the fostering experience.
  • Socialization: Help animals learn to trust humans, adjust to home life, and develop good habits.
  • Flexible Commitment: Foster periods typically range from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the animal's needs.

Time Commitment

Fostering requires daily care and attention, similar to having a pet. You'll need to:

  • Provide daily feeding, exercise, and companionship
  • Attend veterinary appointments as needed
  • Help with adoption events and meet-and-greets
  • Keep us updated on the animal's progress
